Our Purbeck Angus Beef

Introducing our Grass Fed Beef from the Isle of Purbeck. Exclusive to B. Curtis Butchers.

Nestled along the scenic River Frome, the farm prioritises the well-being of their grass-fed Aberdeen Angus cattle, resulting in superior taste and tenderness in the beef. They follow organic principles, cultivating a sustainable ecosystem with outdoor grazing, herbal lay mixes, and a commitment to sustainable farming.

Their focus on crop selection, including high-protein clover and anthelmintic chicory, reflects a dedication to providing a natural, nourishing diet for the cattle, while maintaining the health of their land.

As a part of the Environmental Stewardship scheme for two decades, the farm embraces rotational grazing, which enhances forage quality, soil health, carbon sequestration and fertility, aligning with a goal of reducing feed costs and ensuring the long-term well-being of our cattle and environment.

Scotch Beef from Aberdeenshire

From the home of the Angus, our beef is simply the best. It is sourced directly from Aberdeenshire in the North East of Scotland. All Black Gold Beef is 100% grass fed, Aberdeen Angus cattle, which means they are high in Omega 3 and full of vitamins.

We have been stocking scotch beef since day one, for over 70 years, and it never fails to impress. Whether you’re slow cooking a brisket or frying your favourite steak, you can always trust that our beef is well aged, succulent and absolutely stunning in flavour.

The Aberdeen Angus cattle have been in Scotland since at least the 16th century, when they were known as Angus doddies. For some time before the 1800s, these cattle were located in Angus and Aberdeenshire, hence their name.

Our Purbeck Pork

We source our Pork directly through the wonderful Phil Samways. Phil is Purbeck born and bred and an absolute gentleman. He lives and farms in Acton, near Worth Matravers in the Purbecks, with his wife and children.

The beautiful flavour of this meat reflects the way in which it is reared. Succulent, soft and buttery, Phil’s pigs will give you great results in the kitchen.

Reared on a straw based system, bedded on straw with access to open pastured across the Purbecks, all of his pigs are drug free and wake up to a beautiful view every morning. We age the pork between 3 and 7 days to enrich that beautiful flavour.

Our Purbeck Lamb

We are proud to announce our Purbeck Lamb partnership with Andy Fry and the Fry Family, who farm at Kingston, above Corfe Castle.

The Fry’s are a multi-generational farming family with extremely high standards. The care of the animals really shines through in the most beautiful tasting quality produce. Try it for yourself and you won’t be disappointed.

You can always guarantee premium quality from our Lamb, butchered to perfection and big on flavour.

OUR CHICKEN

Our Free Range Chickens come from Creedy Carver Farms. All of these chickens are reared to the highest welfare standards with access to large grassy range areas, many of which are planted up with trees offering shade to encourage the chicken to range.

The chickens are looked after by dedicated teams, with fresh bedding and constant access to food and water providing the best welfare standards possible.

We also stock Drug Free Chickens which are reared in uncrowded purpose-built houses on deep litter of chopped straw and wood shavings. Chicks are gently placed into new litter under heat lamps (brooders) to keep them warm. As they grow they roam and forage throughout the house, eating and drinking as they wish.

Although not considered free range, our drug free chickens have a good and healthy life. This is a more cost effective method for rearing birds, whilst retaining the high animals welfare standards that are expected.
